Myanmar bans use of CFC gas to prevent ozone layer depletion
YANGON, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The Myanmar authorities have banned the use of Chloroflurocarbon (CFC) gas starting this month, saying that such gas destroys the ozone layer, the local Flower News reported Sunday.
Import and sale of CFC-gas-involved refrigerators and air conditioners as well as other related products have also been stopped, an announcement of the National Commission for Environmental Affairs (NCEA) was quoted as saying.
However, import of other non-CFC products for substitute is advised.
Meanwhile, the Myanmar NCEA has formed the National Ozone Unit, cooperating with international organizations in drawing new policies and rules to prevent ozone layer depletion, the report added. |
